The election is over.

Election Update December 28, 2007

(From The Daily Freeman)

Challenges to the Rhinebeck election results have been dropped, giving Daniel Staley a seat on the Town Board and putting control of the board back in the hands of the Republican Party.

Democrat Monique Segarra dropped her challenge in her race against Staley on Thursday in state Supreme Court in Poughkeepsie, according to the Dutchess County Board of Elections.

Court cases had been filed by both sides in a race that had Staley leading Segarra, 1,231-1,223.

The race had 51 paper ballot votes for Staley and 46 for Segarra, with 15 of those ballots in dispute and not included in the tally.

With his win, Staley will become one of three Republicans to sit with two Democrats on the board in 2008. The board had a 4-1 Democratic majority going into the election.
