Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Company Annual Halloween Party

On Friday, October 26, The Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Company, Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxillary will present its Annual Halloween Party to be held at the Rhinecliff Firehouse.

A tradition for over 15 years, the Rhinecliff Halloween Party has come to be a hallmark of the fall season in the hamlet of Rhinecliff. Each year the party entertains between 80 and 100 kids, 12 years of age and under. The Ladies Auxiliary are the offical sponsors of the event with financial assistance from the Fire Company and Rescue Squad. Local girl scout troops run a variety of games that are played concurrently throughout the evening. This year, Junior Girl Scout Troop 150 under the leadership of Julie Cerulli, will host the games with preparation help from Sharon Rushton and G.S. Troop #294.

This year, storyteller, songwriter, singer, “Uncle Rock” will make an appearance to round out the night. Uncle Rock draws inspiration from Maurice Sendak, The Beatles, Woody Guthrie and Shel Silverstein. Many of his catchy, rhythmically propulsive songs were born at his day job as a teacher's assistant for preschoolers, where he landed after four years as a stay-at-home dad. Uncle Rock delivers plenty of celebratory, goofy singalongs, but the material doesn't shy away from shadowy elements of life, often showing how music can help one to face the goblin under the bed.

Games will begin at 6pm ranging from Pin the Spider on the Witch and Bat Races to Bottle Bowling and Blow the Ghost. At about 7:15pm, Uncle Rock will perform leaving the kids with a good tale to take home. Says organizer, Cynthia Baer, “Rhinecliff doesn’t really get a lot of trick or treaters on Halloween Night so,for me, this is it! The Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Co. Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxilliary are happy to host these kinds of events - where kids can run around freely, in a safe and friendly environment. It’s part of the reason I like living in Rhinecliff. We look forward to a great night of fun.”

The event will be held Friday, October 26, from 6 - 8pm at the Rhinecliff Firehouse on the corner of Shatzell and Orchard Streets in Rhinecliff and is geared for children ages 12 and under, although everyone is welcome. Admission is free and costumes are the reccommended decor. Volunteers are always welcome, call organizer, Cynthia Baer at (845) 876-5738.
