Support for the Rhinecliff Advisory Counsel
I strongly support the creation of a Rhinecliff Hamlet Advisory Council. This board appointed body would have the ability prioritize the issues confronting the Hamlet, study them and recommend solutions to the Town board.
There has been some concern about this being an appointed board verses an elected board. Aside from the fact that it is virtually impossible to create such an official elected body I believe we will be better served be an appointed council. There are many, many smart, talented and interested people here in the hamlet who would never run for a position on the council in an election who would answer the call to serve on the council if they were asked to. When appointing people to the council the board can create a group that represents the differing viewpoints of the hamlet with a diverse skill set. It is important to remember that this is an advisory board and does not have decision-making power.
I am hopeful that the Advisory Council will help Rhinecliff deal with the many issues that are of special interest to Hamlet residents.

Good news
The response at the Town Board meeting tonight (4/10/06) was very positive. A few changes will be made to the law and the public hearing will be continued. At the special Town Board meeting next Monday night. (The comprehensive plan will be transmitted to the board) the rewritten law will be presented. The board can then vote on the amended law at the next regular Town meeting.

Amen to that
Living in Rhinecliff has been akin to living in Washington DC, we have had Taxation Without Representation. Granted this is a metaphor, but the basic concept holds true. We are a small distinct historic community that never gets listened to. A council would go along way towards resolving this long standing problem. I fully support the formation of a Rhinecliff Advisory Council and I hope everyone comes out to make sure this happens. We have too many important matters facing our community, we need to be heard!
