Celebrate the Rhinecliff Firemen’s Field with a Field of Fun and the First Annual Chili Cook-Off this Saturday, Sept. 19

In 2007, the Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Company began renovating the 1.5 acre parcel of land on Valley Way Rd. in Rhinecliff, commonly known as Firemen’s Field.

In the months and years that followed, improvements slowly took place to correct the drainage of the field and create a space that could be easily maintained and green. The cost of the project was approximately $8,000.

On Saturday, September 19, the Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Co, Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxilliary will host a Field Day and Chili Cook Off on-site. Open games such as kickball, badminton, and horseshoes will be offered beginning at 3 pm.

The public is encouraged to bring whatever outdoor games they want to play. At 5pm, the first Annual Chili Cook Off will take place. This is an open call to the public to make and share a pot of chili. Judging will take place at 5:30pm by Rhinebeck Town Supervisor Tom Traudt and Executive Chef, Rei Pereza of the The Rhinecliff. First place is a trophy and cash prize of $100, with runner up taking home $50.

Free hot dogs and beverages will be available as well. A few area musicians may show up so bring your guitar and other instruments if you are so inclined.

Firemen’s Field is located about a 1/4 mile from the intersection of Shatzell and Orchard, adjacent to the Old Schoolhouse Condos on Valley Way Rd.

Look for the white tent and a field full of fun. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, 3pm-7pm.
