Discard electronics at fairgrounds:

RHINEBECK — The Dutchess County Fairgrounds and Advanced Recovery Inc. will host an Electronics Take-Back Days program Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Businesses, government agencies and school districts must pre-register to turn in old equipment Friday by calling 845-858-8809. On Saturday and Sunday, individuals can bring as much old electronic equipment as they can fit into their cars to the fairgrounds between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a flat fee of $10 per car. Items accepted include cables, cell phones, computer monitors, copiers, CPUs, CRTs, DVD players, radios, fax machines, keyboards, laptops, MP3 players, modems, old computers, printers, rechargeable batteries, scanners, stereo equipment, telephones, terminals, televisions, typewriters, VCRs and VHS players.

Come celebrate the field in Rhinecliff!

The Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Co, Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxilliary invite the community of Rhinecliff to a Field Day.

Free play games (Frisbee, kickball, horseshoes) for both kids and adults begin at 3pm, with a community chili cook off at 5pm.

Bring your best recipe hot and ready to share. 1st Place prize: $100. Runner Up $50.

Hot dogs, beverages and desserts provided. Located on the corner of Valley Way Rd and Loftus, next to the Old Schoolhouse Condos in Rhinecliff.

Through a partnership with the Astor Home for Children and United Way,
Morton Memorial Library is pleased to present the Development Check Up
program to parents and their children. Parents can make an
appointment to have their child (age 4 months to 5 years) screened for
developmental milestones like speech, fine motor and social skills.
The 45-minute questionnaire is administered by a trained parent educator
from Astor Home who will offer advice and referrals on the spot.
All consultations are confidential.

The Northern Dutchess Hospital Auxiliary will host a "Chinese Moon Festival: Zhong Qiu Jie" cocktail party at 5 p.m. Sept. 29 at China Rose in Rhinecliff. Guests will be offered a variety of little dishes, moon cakes and a cash bar. The $30 admission includes Asian appetizers, stargazing and fortune-telling. All funds benefit the Rhinecliff-Rhinebeck unit of the NDH Auxiliary. Contact Ethel Arnell at 876-4987.

RHINEBECK: The Rhinebeck Water Department will flush hydrants on the following schedule: Oct. 5-9, all areas on the north side of East and West Market Street plus Old Post Road, Mt. Rutsen Road, Village Green Apartments, Wells Manor and The Woods.

Oct. 13-16, all areas on the south side of East and West Market Street plus Route 308 East, Violet Hill Estates, Hilee Road and Closs Drive; Oct. 19-23, Rhinecliff Road, River Road and The Gardens.

All areas in Rhinecliff will be done on Monday, Tuesday and, possibly, Wednesday. Call 845-876-7015.

Cynthia Owen Philip will give an illustrated talk on Robert Fulton - artist, inventor,writer, mathematician, mechanic and entrepreneur - at Morton Memorial Library, 82 Kelly Street, Rhinecliff, on October 7 at 7:00 p.m.

The talk will cover Fulton's exciting and highly productive years in England and France as well as his submarines, and his stormy relationship with his partner Chancellor Robert R. Livingston in establishing their steamboat empire in the United States.
