The Town of Rhinebeck Highway Department will hold a “Bike Rodeo” on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Highway Department facility located at 119 Rhinecliff Road, Rhinebeck.

The rodeo consists of a skills course, provided by AAA New York, which promotes bike safety for young riders. Riders have the opportunity to test their balancing, maneuvering, weaving and stopping skills. In addition to the skills course, there will be a raffle for a free bike helmet and light refreshments.

Participants must bring their own bikes and helmets and can have them checked by the Rhinebeck Police Department, which will be conducting inspections and giving demonstrations. This is an opportunity to learn the rules of the road in a very hands-on way. Each participant will receive an award certificate.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. To participate, register by calling the Highway Department at 845-876-6263. The event is free of charge.

The event is sponsored by the Town of Rhinebeck Highway Department and co-sponsored by the Town of Rhinebeck Recreation Department, the Rhinebeck Police Department and AAA, NY.

FOR PETE’S SAKE GO OUT AND VOTE LOCALLY

A SPECIAL SCREENING OF
PETE SEEGER: THE POWER OF SONG
Astor Indoor Tennis Court
189 River Road
Rhinebeck, NY

FREE

Now more than ever we need people to engage in our democratic system and that includes our local elections in Rhinebeck and Red Hook, so we urge everyone to go out and vote next Tuesday. To honor this most cherished of all American values, Republicans, Democrats and Independents are invited to share in special screening of Pete Seeger: The Power of Song. This extraordinary new documentary can currently be seen at one exclusive theatre in New York City, but on Sunday November 4th it will be shown free of charge in the Astor Indoor Tennis Court at 7:00 pm. And as this extraordinary documentary will show, more than any figure of our time, Pete Seeger has come to symbolize the spirit of independent expression and political commitment - whether fighting and singing for the rights of common people, civil rights, protesting unjust wars or cleaning up the Hudson River, Seeger has been on the front line for some 70 years. His songs and political impact have reached across the globe, but for over half a century, he has committed much of his life and energy to our area - since building a family cabin overlooking the Hudson with no water or electric in 1949 to restoring the Clearwater and sparking the extraordinary clean up of our Hudson River in recent decades. Come celebrate the spirit of Seeger as we prepare to exercise our precious democratic priviliges.
