The conference on improving how our schools, village and town work together will be held at Rhinebeck High School on Saturday, November 18, from 9-3, with lunch generously donated by Bob Miglino, owner of the new Italian Market, "Leonardo’s," thus making the $5 registration fee unnecessary.

Everyone whose pre-registration included the fee will have their money returned. Residents who are planning to attend should submit their registration forms either electronically, by regular mail, or in person to town hall.

Start: 8:00 am
End: 7:00 pm

If you are concerned about differences among the schools, town and village when it comes to public services and operations, please mark Saturday, November 18th in your calendar.

The Rhinebeck town, village and school boards have each endorsed and will support a conference for all interested Rhinebeck residents designed to launch a public discussion on improving cooperation among the schools, village, and town.

A planning committee has been hard at work designing the conference. We expect to present and discuss the history of separation among the schools, town and village; current efforts at greater collaboration; models of deep collaboration from other communities; and to plan preliminary steps to deepen and widen our efforts to work together, to end duplication, to solve common problems, and, hopefully, to reduce public spending wherever that may be possible.

The areas we will be examining will include: public safety, public works, recreation, environmental protection, community development, and arts/culture.

Come see the Wilderstein Historic Site, Rhinebeck’s Victorian masterpiece, decorated for the holiday season! Self-guided tours of the Wilderstein Mansion will occur from Thanksgiving weekend through the end of December.

Wilderstein is a storied estate where presidents, statesmen, and royalty came to tea. It has an authentic patina and quirky character alive with the energy and passions of the Suckleys, a family rooted in the American aristocracy. Three generations of the Suckley family called Wilderstein their home for nearly 150 years. The last person to live at Wilderstein was Margaret (Daisy), whose extraordinarily close relationship with Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been well-chronicled and the subject of much speculation.

A visit to Wilderstein is the perfect outing for houseguests with cabin fever! The Wilderstein Mansion will be open for tours from 1 to 4 PM on Thanksgiving weekend (November 24, 25 & 26) as well as December weekends (December 2 & 3, 9 & 10, 16 & 17, 23). For more information, call 845-876-4818.
